Summary

[edit]
Description Apparatus used at the National Bureau of Standards for polishing smooth fatigue test specimens. Motor driven, the equipment produces a highly uniform finish from specimen to specimen. The polishing wheel, consisting of a large number of metal spring leaves, presses an abrasive belt against the specimen with uniform pressure. The specimen itself is rotated at a constant rate, and advances slowly over the abrasive surface during the polishing operation.
