Description
English: The Mercator projection is sometimes mistakenly described as a projection of a globe by a light at the centre. This is WRONG. The projection from the centre is the Central Cylindrical projection (left). It differs from Mercator projection (right). The central cylindrical projection tends to infinity faster than Mercator and it has more distortion at high latitudes.
