Description
English: Rear Adm. James G. Foggo, deputy commander, U.S. 6th Fleet, renders a salute during the national anthem while attending a memorial service in Cannes, France, honoring American aviators lost in a downed B-24 Liberator during World War II. Sailors and embarked Marines assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island participated in the ceremony as part of their scheduled port visit. Whidbey Island is deployed as part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility, and is currently celebrating Independence Day in France during a scheduled port visit.
