Česta rano proletna vrsta majnjaka koja se pojavljuje u otvorenim, livadskim staništima nizijskih i brdskih područja širom Srbije. Veličine od 15 do 50 mm ujednačeno metalno plavog tela i fino istačkane glave i vratnog štita. Između mužjaka i ženki oblik antena se razlikuje. Odrasli se hrane vegetativnim organima i polenom različitih biljaka. Ženka u zemlju polaže veliku količinu jaja,nekad i do 10.000. Tek izlegle larve se penju na zeljastu vegetaciju gde sačekuju solitarne pčele ređe skakavce, kače se na njih i tako prelaze u njihova gnezda.
