I never cease to be fascinated by the cute meerkats. Here is a pair of them, taking in the human activity around him. These animals look really cute when they are standing upright. (see my Fauna- Al Ain zoo album). The meerkat or suricate, Suricata suricatta, is a small mammal belonging to the mongoose family. Meerkats live in all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a 'mob' or 'gang' or 'clan'. Meerkats eat a variety of insects and even crustaceans like the deadly scorption. (Emirates Park Zoo, Samha, Abu Dhabi, Jan. 2015) |
