Title
Medieval zoomorphic buckle
Description
English: Copper alloy buckle dating to the Medieval period (probably around 1350-1500AD). The buckle is an unusual form comprising of a single looped frame which has a pin bar dividing approximately one third of the frame off. The larger part of the frame is D-shaped and the smaller section is rectangular. The outside edge of the D-shaped frame is thickened and decorated with a cast zoomorphic head depicting a mouth and incised chevron decoration along the back of the head (presumably to indicate fur). The rest of the frame is thin and sub-rectangular in section. The buckle weighs 2.43g and measures 21.6mm in length, 15.03mm in width and 5.41mm in thickness.
