Title
Medieval shield-shaped mount
Description
English: A copper-alloy mount, probably from a harness strap or a casket, dating from the 13th or 14th century AD (N. Griffiths; 1989; pp. 1).

The plate is shield-shaped, with a rounded bottom edge, making it a variation on Griffiths type 3b (1989; pp. 3). It measures 21mm high, by 15.4mm wide and 0.9mm thick. The upper surface has a recessed saltire, whilst the reverse is plain, apart from an integral copper-alloy rivet, which measures approximately 8mm in length and tapers to a point.

The object is slightly bent and corroded. It weighs 2.83g.
