Title
Medieval possible Padlock fragment from Swinhope

English: Copper alloy

Strap Fitting. Cast disc with a central cross-shaped aperture. The back is rebated with a sub-rectangular groove opposite each arm of the aperture, and with a triangular groove between each pair of the larger grooves. Small patches of ferrous corrosion appears on both sides of the object, so associated elements were probably of iron. Rob Webley kindly corrected an initial erroneous identification by this reporter (the object was first thought to be the end of a cylindrical padlock case) with reference to a discussion of parallels for find reference: SOM-294FD3
