Title
Medieval horse harness mount: Shield shaped harness mount
Description
English: A cast copper alloy sheild-shaped heraldic horse harness mount dating from the 13th - 15th centuries. The harness mount has an integrally cast sub-circular attachment shank on the reverse, the thickness of which suggests that the mount was attached to a horse harness rather than a human belt fitting. The shield device consists of two sets of three horizontal lines across the top and bottom of the shield. There may be the remains of red enamelling between the device elements.
