Title
Medieval copper alloy buckle
Description
English:

A copper alloy Medieval strap fitting dated 1250-1350. The pendent loop from a bar mount is a single loop sub-oval D shape. There is an expanded bar opposite the strap bar. This bar has a fine ridge at either side of a central groove. The surface of the buckle frame is slightly abraded and is dark brown in colour. A buckle pendant loop which is similar can be found at PAS Unique ID:WAW-474CA3, which record refers to a buckle illustrated in Egan & Pritchard (1991, 77, Fig. 46, Nos. 292 and 295) and found in a context dated c. 1230-1350. The loop is too small to be a buckle, but this is not certain.

Egan, G. and Pritchard, F., 2002 Dress Accessories, c. 1150- c. 1450 (Medieval finds from Excavations in London) London: Boydell Press.

Measurements: Length: 12mm , Width: 15mm. Weight: 1.58g.
