Title
Medieval buckle pin
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy pin now independent of its frame, probably from a medieval annular buckle. It is solidly cast, with a cross-section in the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners. The complete oval loop is unbroken, but there is a large gap between the loop and shaft. There is a rectangular transverse ridge at the end of the loop and the shaft. The pin tapers slightly to a blunted tip with a cutaway. The tip is bent upwards. The object has now corroded to a dull, dark grey patina. The size of this object points to this being an example of a buckle pin as opposed to a brooch pin. Examples illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 115; fig. 75) date to around the 14th century AD.
