Title
Medieval bar mount
Description
English: A copper alloy Medieval bar mount dating from about the 13th Century. The mount has a hemispherical central lobe with projecting arms which terminate in a lobe at either end. The central lobe is pierced by a large central oval hole, and is decorated with horizontal ridges flanking the lobe. The terminal lobes also have central perforations containing copper alloy rivets. There are similar ridges separating the terminal lobes from the rest of the mount. The central lobe is hollow on the underside and the back of the mount is undecorated. The bar is D-shaped in section. The mount has a grey patina. See Egan and Pritchard's Dress Accessories (1991), page 214, figure 134, number 1161. Similar examples may be found on the database, for example: NCL-6314C5 and WILT-203F83. The mount is 60.2mm long, 15.8mm wide and 5.9mm thick. 10.38g.
