Title
Medieval bar mount
Description
English: A corroded Medieval copper alloy bar mount. The mount has a plain terminal lobe at each end with a central bulbous lobe decorated with five transverse grooves. The transverse grooves have been crudely scored at right angles to create rectagular segments. There is a drilled circular rivet hole in both of the smaller terminal lobes. The underside is filled with significant corrosion and some remaining soil; however these types of mounts are commonly convex and hollow at the central lobe. Several examples similar to this bar mount are illustrated in Egan (1991, 214, 1161) and are dated through ceramic association to 1350 to 1400 AD. The mount is 21.3mm long, 10.5mm wide, 1.8mm thick and weighs 2.27g.
