Title |
Medieval asymmetrical buckle |
||
Description |
English: A medieval copper-alloy buckle. Asymmetrical buckle of probable mid 14th to mid 15th century AD date. One half of the buckle frame is sub-rectangular, with a convex upper surface and slightly bevelled inner faces. It seems likely that the leather belt strap would have been wound around the vertical side of this half of the frame. The other half of the buckle is roughly D-shaped, with a point and moulded pin rest half way down its outer edge. The two halves of the buckle are separated by an axis bar of semi-circular section. There are two moulded knobs at the two points where the axis bar joins the buckle frame. The buckle is lacking a pin and has a flat underside. It measures 29.23mm long by 25.4mm high and 2.6mm thick. It weighs 5.6g. |
