Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Unusually tiny version of a known type of medieval buckle, comprising an oval frame with exaggeratedly expanded triangular lip with prominent lobes flanking the narrowed and straight outside edge, broad shallow groove for pin rest between twin lines of engraved rocker arm, offset narrowed rectangular-sectioned bar with flat-sectioned copper alloy pin. Length 14 mm. Width 14.5mm. Weighs 1.92g. Cf. an excavated example of normal size in Margeson and Williams in Ayers 1985, fig. 24, no. 7. An equally diminutive specimen was recovered in Gedding, Suffolk (SF-9538A3). 13th century.
