Title
Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Front part of a medieval gilt copper alloy rectangular buckle plate broken at the fold, with a pin slot, frame recesses, two rivet holes and, in counter-relief a bird with a curled-up tail walking to the left. The motif may have been created by paring way of the metal, and the object was probably inlaid with enamel, none of which is now present (cf. Egan and Pritchard 1991, no. 530). See a quite close parallel from Nottinghamshire (SWYOR-26B461). 21.5 x 15.5mm. Thickness 1.8mm. 13th century.
