Title
Medieval Belt Loop.
Description
English: Complete cast copper alloy belt loop of Medieval date (AD 1200 – AD 1400). Length 18mm, width 24mm and maximum thickness 2.5mm. Weight 2.91g.

The frame is trapezoidal in plan and roughly rectangular in cross-section. The front and rear faces are flat except at the centre of the outside edge where there is a sub-rectangular swelling. The swelling is 3.0mm in length, 4.8mm in width and has a thickness of 4.0mm. At each corner of the outside edge there is a small rounded knop. The inside of the frame has two, off-centre, internal pointed projections which are aligned opposite to each other in the longitudinal plane. These projections allowed the belt or strap to be adjusted.

The piece is corroded and a patina has not survived.
