Medieval : Bar Mount
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy bar mount of medieval date. The mount has a large central lobe and two terminal lobes with the remains of worn rivets still present. The central lobe is decorated with four transverse grooves the resulting raised lines are ribbed. The reverse of the mount is hollow and the reverse of one of the terminal lobes is empty while from the other the rivet projects.

The metal is a mid blackish-brown colour and is worn. The mount is 25mm long, 11.8mm wide, 4.8mm thick and weighs 2.5g.

Similar mounts can be seen in Dress Accessories p.214 and date from AD 1350 - 1400.
