The quartan (_^>. malarice), requiring seventy-two hours for its development,causes a paroxysm on each fourth day, with two days of apyrexia. If twotertian organisms are developing, the paroxysm assumes a daily type; inthe case of double quartan infection, attacks appear on two successive days,leaving one day of apyrexia.
