Notes | Metropolitan Police Jubilee Medal, 1887 Medal awarded to Dr. Percy Jakins, S Division (Hampstead). The Jubilee (Police) Medal 1887 was issued to all ranks of the Metropolitan and City of London Police Forces, who were involved in the Jubilee Parade and celebrations of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee on 21 June 1887. Dr Percy Septimus Jakins (1856-1944) was a Harley Street surgeon who specialised in throat and ear complaints. During the 1880s he was Divisional Surgeon for S (Hampstead) Division of the London metropolitan Police. He had married in 1881 and at the time was living at Osnaburg Street. The 1911 census records that he was living at 22 Ulster Place with his wife and three children - a son, Harley who died in France in 1918, and two daughters. Percy's older brother George Sargent Jakins had migrated to New Zealand in 1859 and established himself in Auckland as a general merchant. In the late 1880s he moved over to Melbourne but returned to live in Auckland circa 1909. George Sargent Jakins died in 1928. It is believed that the donor of this medal was one of his grand-daughters. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
