English: New Zealand Medal, New Zealand Wars (1860-1872) undated Medal awarded to Crpl Richard William Raithby, Auckland Cavalry Volunteers, NZ Colonial Defence Force circular silver medal; straight ornamental (fern fronds) swiveling suspender; with ribbon obverse- diademed head of Queen Victoria with a veil covering the back of her head; around the head is the legend- VICTORIA - D - G - BRITT - REG - F - D reverse- at centre a laurel wreath; above and below are the words- NEW ZEALAND - VIRTUTIS HONOR (Honour of Valour) ribbon- dark blue with a red stripe (10mm wide) down centre named on edge, impressed in small capitals- CORPL R.W. RAITHBY. COL.D.F.

Notes New Zealand Medal, New Zealand Wars (1860-1872) undated Medal awarded to Crpl Richard William Raithby, No 1 Troop, Auckland Cavalry Volunteers, Colonial Defence Force. He initially enlisted as a Trooper and also served with the Royal Cavalry Volunteers, 1st Otahuhu coy. Corporal Raithby took part in actions at Rangiaowhia on 21-2-1864 and at Orakau between 31-31864-2-4-1864.
