Notes | Victory Medal 1914-18 22-267 Staff Nurse Louise Mary (Lucy) Trumble, NZANS, WW1 Born Bendigo, Australia, 1874; came to New Zealand in 1900s to care for children of her sister; trained at Christchurch Hospital; registered 22.8.1912 (NZRN certificate no 1236); received midwifery certificate from Wellington Hospital in December 1914 WW1- enlisted as a Sister with the NZANS on 3 December 1915, service no 22-267; appointed as Staff Nurse 4 December 1915 (or 11 January 1916.); embarked on HS Marama; served almost continuously in Cairo January 1916 to February 1919 at the 27 General Hospital (also served on HS Marama); then transferred to England; returned to New Zealand in July 1919 and struck off Expeditionary Force Roll in 1920. Post-war she became Matron at the 'Upper' Military Sanitorium, Cashmere Hills, Christchurch (1919-1923); then took up position as matron in new open air home (TB Sanatorium) until her retirement in June 1935. Died Wellington, 5-11-1955 Decorations- ARRC- "In recognition of her valuable service with the Armies in the Field" (LG 1January 1918 p57) MID- Mentioned in a Despatch from General Sir AJ Murray (Commander-in-Chief, Egyptian Expeditionary Force) dated 28 June 1917 "for gallant and distinguished services in the Field" (LG 12-1-1918 p805) | |||||||||||||||||||||||
