Notes | Corporal William Henry Deakin MM, born in Leigh, UK, served during WW2 with the Durham Light Infantry (service no 3529549), taking part in Dunkirk, the Liberation of Geel (Belgium), and was a POW on crematorium duties at Auschwitz and Helle. After the war he settled in New Zealand and volunteered for service in Korea with K-Force. He died in 1999. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
