Notes | Victory Medal 1914-1919, WW1 Awarded to 4-592 Cpl Sydney Webb, New Zealand Engineers, NZEF. Sydney Webb enlisted as a Sapper with the NZ Field Engineers aged 23 years, and went on to serve in Egypt, Gallipoli and Western Europe. Little is known about him – he enlisted from Invercargill, was a watchmaker by trade and served for 4 years, 175 days. His best known contribution is perhaps the photographs he took on Gallipoli probably using a Vest Pocket Kodak. In a small album Webb documents the landscape and life of Gallipoli. In subjects ranging from making dinner, getting a haircut and the rum issue to general views of bivvies and soldiers, he offers an insight into the daily lives of soldiers on Gallipoli. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
