Description
Deutsch: Die Vorderseite zeigt ein Porträt von Otto Hirschfeld. Die Legende nennt seinen Namen sowie seine Anstellungen an den Universitäten Prag und Wien in latinisierter Form. Der Medailleur Anton Scharff signierte unterhalb des Armes. Die Rückseite zeigt zwei weibliche Personen in klassizistischem Stil. Die Beischrift im Abschnitt unterhalb der Figuren identifiziert sie als MNHMH (Erinnerung) und ΠIΣTIΣ (Treue). Die Erinnerung sitzt auf einem Stein, der mit Fruchtgirlanden und einer Maske dekoriert ist, und hält eine Tafel mit Stilus in der Hand. Sie wendet sich der stark entblößten Treue zu. Hinter dieser sind ein Kapitell und Olivenzweig platziert. Die Legende auf Latein weist auf den Anlass und die Stifter (Schüler und Freunde) hin.
English: The front side depicts a bust of Otto Hirschfeld surrounded by his name and references to his employments at the University of Prague and Vienna in Latin. The engraver signed below the shoulder. The back side pictures two females in neoclassical stile identified by the Greek names given below as MNHMH (memory) and ΠIΣTIΣ (faithfulness). The allegory of memory sits upon a stone which is decorated by a mask and garland. She holds a board and stilus and is looking at the allegory of faithfulness. On the right side one can find an ionian capital and an olive branch. The dedication in Latin hints at the reason for strucking the medal and names the commissioners as friends and students.
