| Description | McKinlock lot in the Lake Forest Cemetery (c. 1937). George Alexander McKinlock, Sr. headed the Central Electric Company and was a real estate developer. He eventually sold his Central Electric shares to General Electric. He had one son, George Alexander, Jr. A Harvard graduate, the younger McKinlock was drafted out of college and served as an intelligence officer as a second lieutenant. He was killed by a German sniper in France on July 21, 1918. He posthumously received the Distinguished Service Cross and Croix de guerre with palm. After his death, Senior donated $25,000 to Northwestern University and pledged half a million to Harvard. Today, McKinlock Hall stands in Junior's memory on Harvard's campus. |
