Description

In 2009 the Ballarat City Council held a Eureka flag raising ceremony opposite the Town Hall on December 3, with the Mayor Judy Verlin officiating. This is an important shift by Council, although the Council still refuses to fly the Eureka flag from the top of the Town Hall on this special day.

In 1854 Father Smyth, Catholic Priest at St Alipius Chapel, Ballarat, made two trips from Eureka to the Government Camp in an unsuccessful attempt to mediate the growing unrest and conflict. So there is a strong connection between St Alipius Primary School and the Eureka Stockade.
