Description |
English: Mary Ann Boren married Arthur Armstrong Denny in Illinois in 1843. Eight years later, the couple, their two daughters, and other members of the Denny and Boren families set out for the Pacific Northwest. In the group, known to later generations as the Denny Party, were but five women, seven men and 12 children. Mary Ann was already expecting her third child, a son, who was born in Portland. Two other sons were born in Seattle. By the time Mary Ann Denny sat for her portrait at Morton McClaire's studio in the mid to late 1880s, the family and Seattle, the city they had helped to found, had prospered. Mary Ann Denny died in 1910. Handwritten by Patricia O. Wright on photograph verso: Mary Ann Boren Denny (Mrs. Arthur A." Mary A. Denny. Printed on mount: M.S. McClaire. Cor.
