English: This is a bronze bust of the famous Roman poet Martial (Marcus Valerius Martialis, 38 – 104), sculptured by Juan Cruz Melero (1910 – 1986). Not only was Melero, the Spanish artist, born in the same place as Martial, but both men, when aged 25-40, lived through the periods of the political turmoil of their respective centuries.
