Summary
[edit]DescriptionMaritime heath at Gwennap Head - geograph.org.uk - 229828.jpg |
English: Maritime heath at Gwennap Head. Heathland on top of the granite cliffs, with common heather (calluna vulgaris), bell heather (erica cinerea) and western gorse (ulex gallii) - all stunted by the severe conditions on this exposed headland. The visitors room in the nearby Coastwatch station contains information on the natural history of the headland, including the fact that the gorse is yellow, the common heather pale pink and the bell heather deep pink. It also claims that this is the windiest place on the British mainland, but I don't know if this is factually correct or just supposition! Compare with 71871 in the neighbouring gridsquare. |
