The CCC Company #4755 consisting of African American veterans of war and junior African American CCC members was organized under the command of Major James Weede at Camp Whiteside, Fort Riley, Kansas, November 7,1935. They left Ft. Riley on February 3,1936 by train for Marion KS, to build a dam identified as Soil Conservation Project #27.
