Description

This is a description of the Margaretha Kirken ruin from the 1200s. Transcript (Norwegian): Kirken ble oppført omkring midten av 1200-tallet. Margaretha- kirken er den best bevarte middelalderkirken i Oslo utenom Gamle Aker kirke. Bygda Maridalen mellom Grefsenmarka, Sognsmarka. Sandungen og øvre del av Akerselva var en fjerding som sognet til Maargaretha- kirken. St. Margaretha, som var de gifte kvinners skythelgen, har gitt kirken dens navn. Hun ble henrettet i år 307 da hun ikke ville gifte seg med den romerske landshøvdingen Olybrius. Ruinene ble restaurert i 1934.

De er blitt et kjennemerke for Maridalen.
