English: Ing. Marek Frauwirth (* 8 November 1911, Zakopane, Poland - 17 November 1939, Prague) was a Slovak Jew, left-wing activist and non-diplomatic employee of the Slovak Consulate in Prague. He worked at the Slovak Consulate in Protectorate Prague in late 1939. Under the code name "ing. Marek", he was involved in issuing false passports to Jews and resistance fighters who needed to travel beyond the borders of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. He was also involved in the distribution of resistance leaflets and anti-German printed matter. On the day of the funeral of the student Jan Opletal (15 November 1939), he lost (but probably forgot somewhere) his briefcase containing anti-Nazi leaflets. Probably on the basis of this discovery, he was arrested by the Gestapo in the early morning hours (at 4:30 a.m.) two days later (17 November 1939) and executed the same day (without trial) in the former artillery barracks in Prague-Ruzyně. Among the nine students executed by the Germans on 17 November 1939, he was the only Slovak. Photo before 1940, archive of Charles University, probably photoatelier Langhans. |
