Description
English: Marathon, Attica, Greece: Archaeological Museum of Marathon. Headless herm with a curse, erected by Herodes Atticus in honour of one of his wards. 2nd century AD. SEG 35:209. Reading:

[πρὸς θεῶν καὶ ἡρώων, ὅστις εἰ ὁ ἔ]- [χων τὸν χῶρον, μήποτε μετακεινήση̣ς] τούτων τι καὶ τὰς τούτων τῶν ἀγαλμά- των εἰκόνας καὶ τιμάς, ὅστις ⟦- - - -⟧ [ἢ] καθέλοι ἢ μετακεινοίη, τούτων μήτε [γῆν καρπ]ὸν φέρειν μήτε θάλασσαν [πλ]ωτ̣ὴν εἶναι, κακῶς τε ἀπολέσθαι αὐ- [τ]ὸν καὶ [γ]ένος· ὅστις δὲ κατὰ χώραν φυλάττοι καὶ τιμ[ῶν τ]ὰ εἰωθότα [- - -] καὶ αὔξων διαμένοι πο[λλὰ καὶ ἀγ]α- θὰ εἶναι τούτων καὶ αὐτῷ Α[- - -] λυμήνασθαι δὲ μηδὲ λωβήσασθαι μηδὲν ἢ ἀποκροῦσαι ἢ συνθραῦσαι ἢ συνχέαι τῆς μορφῆς καὶ τοῦ σχή- ματος· εἰ δέ τις οὔτως ποιήσει, [ἡ αὐτὴ] καὶ ἐπὶ τούτοις ἀρά. ἀλλ’ ἐᾶν τά τε ἐπιθήματα τῶν μορφῶν ἀσι- νῆ καὶ ἀκέραια καὶ τὰ ὑποστήματα,
