Description
Español: Mapa geológico simplificado de la República de El Salvador, qué muestra las unidades estratigraficas que a grandes rasgos engloban las distintas características geologicas del país. Dichas unidades son:
  • Los Estratos de Metapán (primariamente del Jurásico al Mioceno inferior; y que incluye el Complejo Espinal, la formación Todos Santos, Grupo Yojoa, y Grupo Valle de los Angeles)
  • La Formación Morazán
  • Formación Chalatenango (estás dos abarcando primariamente del Oligoceno al Mioceno; y que son mostradas de un mismo color en el mapa)
  • Formación Bálsamo (de finales del Mioceno al Plioceno)
  • Formación Cuscatlán (del Pleistoceno inferior; y que el mapa muestra la definición dada por Reynolds JH (1980 y 1987), y compartida por Lexa et al 2011, que la define como: un conjunto de productos de actividad volcánica explosiva predominantemente silícica asociada con la evolución de Calderas, más jóvenes o contemporáneas a la Formación Bálsamo)
  • Formación San Salvador (del Pleistoceno superior)
  • Aluvión (del Holoceno)
English: Simplified geological map of the Republic of El Salvador, which shows the stratigraphic units that broadly encompass the different geological characteristics of the country. These units are:
  • The Metapán Strata (primarily Jurassic to Lower Miocene; which includes the Espinal Comple, Todos Santos formation, Grupo Yojoa, and Grupo Valle de los Angeles),
  • The Morazán Formation
  • Chalatenango Formation (these two are primarily from Oligocene to Miocene; and they are shown in the same color on the map),
  • Bálsamo Formation (from late Miocene to Pliocene)
  • Cuscatlán Formation (Lower Pleistocene; which the map shows the definition given by Reynolds JH (1980 and 1987), and shared by Lexa et al 2011, which defines it as: a set of products of predominantly silicic explosive volcanic activity associated with the evolution of Calderas, younger or contemporary to the Bálsamo Formation)
  • Formation San Salvador (Upper Pleistocene)
  • Aluvión (Holocene)
