English: Manakamana temple is very famous in Gorkha district. The temple is located at Nangidanda at an altitude of 1343 meters in Shahid Lagan VDC Ward No. 3.
Indra, Bishnu, Kumar, Barah, Shiva, Saraswati, Kalika, Durga, Baishnavi, etc. are among the unique carvings of Tundal. This pagoda style temple is very attractive. In the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, Manakamana, the largest of the five vertical idols, is worshiped on its right and left as Ganesh, Bhairav and on the east as a kumari and as Betal. There are also idols of various other deities. These Manakamana Bhagwati is considered by devotees as the goddess who fulfills Manakamana as per the name. The legend regarding the origin of Manakamana is that Bhasmasura became powerful by asceticism of Lord Shiva and was given the gift of death even if he laid his hands on his head. It is believed that the goddess Bhasmasura tried to kill Shiva by placing her hand on his head to protect the fleeing Shiva. King Ramshah used to lose his queen Livavati and Rai's beloved character Lakhan Thapa from time to time. He also saw a self-built palace being built there. He could not dare to go inside as there was a lion at the door of the palace. When she told all these scenes to Rani, she said, "If you had not looked like that, you would have become Chakravarti." But Chakravarti will be the next king in your lineage even if you are not. Then the king died at a young age. According to the social custom, after the death of her husband, the queen had to go for sati. It is believed that Manakamana Devi appeared in the temple. After some time, that rock was buried. When a farmer was plowing the field in his field, the tip of the plow fell on a stone and blood and milk started flowing from the stone. After seeing the scene, Lakhan Thapa came and saw that the queen had said that she would reappear later when she was going to Sati. Lakhan Thapa had achieved success through Gorakhnath. Manakamana Bhagwati is also considered as a mental disciple of Gorakhnath, while Gorakhkali and Manakamana are also considered as sisters. For this reason, since the wish of Lakhan Thapa has been fulfilled, the devotees worship Manakamana Bhagwati with the belief that worshiping Manakamana will fulfill the wish. About the priest of this temple, after the death of King Ram Shah, seeing that Maharani Lilavati was ready to go to Sati, Lakhan Thapa said, "What can I do now?" There you and your children went to Sati to worship me. Since then, the children of Lakhan Thapa Magar, a local priest, have been becoming priests, but here, as Puret, they belong to Aryal caste. Twice a year in Kartik and Baishakh, the worship of Barshabandhan is practiced in Kathmandu. According to Tantric rituals, worship is done in this temple. Manakamana Devi is also offered daily rice. The daily worship of other devotees is done only after the first sacrifice is offered here. Other sacrifices are offered at the temple of Bhairav in the north corner outside the temple by making a resolution near Devika. In the context of sacrifice, sacrifices are not offered on the festivals of Hindu Nepalis like Ram Navami, Ekadashi, Aushi, Shivaratri, Buddha Jayanti. The 12 purnima (full Moon) sacrifices of the year are performed inside the temple. On the great festival of Nepali Hindus, Bijaya Dashami and Chaitra Dashain, it is customary to offer sacrifices after sinking in the evening moon. On the day of Bijaya Dashami, flowers and tikas are brought from Gorakhkali to this temple and offered. Devotees offer a lot of sacrifices in this temple. Some devotees fly pigeons as a sacrifice. To reach this temple, one has to walk uphill from Khaireni and reach Kurintar in 10 minutes by cable car. |
