Description
Português: Da espécie Tibouchina mutabilis, o Manacá-da-Serra é típico da Mata Atlântica brasileira, nos estados do Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e Santa Catarina. É a única árvore do gênero que muda suas flores de cor. A da foto se encontra plantada no centro urbano de Osasco - SP. Em especial, o autor desta foto observou que as flores da mesma abriram, primeiramente, na parte de baixo da árvore, provavelmente ou talvez pela razão de que, sendo de expressivos tamanho e quantidade, se florescessem na parte de cima antes, cobririam a necessária luz solar que incide diretamente sobre as folhas, o que demonstrou uma inteligência do Manacá-da-Serra.

O nome científico "mutabilis" se deve a sua peculiar capacidade de ser mutável, de se transformar, pois suas flores mudam de cor em branco, rosa e lilás.
