| Transcript | Strada Santa Lucia. Valetta, the present-day capital of Malta, is built on somewhat hilly ground on the side of the Grand Harbour. Owing to the formation of the land, some of the side streets are very steep and have to be negotiated by flights of stairs, calling to memory Byron's couplet, " Adieu ye cursed streets of stairs; how every one who mounts ye swears! " |
