Description
English: Severe damage to the village of Pertosa caused by the 1857 Basilicata earthquake. The picture is one of the first records of earthquake damage known. Robert Mallet, the pioneering Irish seismologist asked the French photographer Alphonse Bernoud to make a photographic record of the damage
