English: "If we didn't have our traditions, our history, we would have nothing," said Brig. Gen. James D. Campbell, the Adjutant General for Maine. "Our sense of who we are as an organization, leadership examples to follow, and lessons we can learn from. Timeless traditions from places like this are just invaluable. You have to understand the past to improve the present." Campbell, along with Maj. Gen. Perry G. Smith, The Adjutant General for Alabama, Maine Governor Paul Lepage and Gen. Frank Grass, chief of the National Guard Bureau attended a 150 commemorative ceremony on Little Round Top, Gettysburg, Pa. Servicemembers from Maine and Alabama talked about the past and present during the July 17 event where their predecessors had clashed 150 years ago in the Battle of Gettysburg.(Maine Army National Guard photo by Sgt. Angela Parady, 121st Public Affairs Detachment.)
