| Description |
English: Magnesium (Mg) is # 12 on the Periodic Table of Elements. Elemental magnesium is a silvery-gray metal. It is one of many "strategic metals". Magnesium is produced by processing various ore minerals such as dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2, calcium magnesium carbonate), magnesite (MgCO3, magnesium carbonate), and brucite (Mg(OH)2, magnesium hydroxide). Most ores are "burned" to MgO (magnesium oxide) to make "magnesia refractories", which are bricks used for lining furnaces in the glass and metallurgy industries.
Twenty-two isotopes of magnesium are known - three occur naturally. Magnesium-24 is the most common. Magnesium-25 and magnesium-26 are less common.
