English: One of the myths or folklore, Durga Puja is one of them. Durga Puja or Durgotsava is a Hindu festival in the Indian subcontinent cantered around the worship of Goddess Durga. It is celebrated by Hindu communities all over the world. In the Brahmabaivarta Purana, Krishna is said to be the originator of Durga Puja. In the first era of creation, Lord Krishna performed the first Durga Puja in the Maharasamandala of Adi-Brindavana of Vaikuntha. According to the Devi Bhagavat Purana, one of the main scriptures of Shaktism, Manu, the son of Brahma, became the ruler of the world and worshiped Durga by making clay idols on the shores of the Kshirodsagara. Of the many mythological stories that exist around Durga and Durga Puja, the most popular story is found in Sri Sri Chandi or Devi Mahatmyam. This story is so revered by Hindus that recitation of Sri Sri Chandi has become an essential part of Durga Puja. The most commonly seen idol of Goddess Durga in Bengal is Parivarsamamvita or Family Durga idol. Hinduism is the second largest religious community in Bangladesh. Being the biggest festival of Hindus, Durga Puja is also organized in villages and towns in Bangladesh. According to tradition, King Kangs Narayan Roy Bahadur performed the first Durga Puja in Bengal at Taherpur in Nadia. Puja started in 1580. A few months before the start of the puja, the artisans are busy making Durga idols.
