Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Madira Bickel Mound State Archaeological Site is an archaeological site on Terra Ceia Island in northwestern Palmetto, Florida, United States. It was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and is also a Florida State Park. The site was used for 2,000 years, across three distinct periods of Native American culture in Florida: the Manasota, Weedon Island, and Safety Harbor cultures. A massive earthwork temple/ceremonial mound is at center; it is 6.1 m high and has a base of approximately 52 m. The mound is constructed of shells, sand and detritus. The temple mound, the smaller Prine Burial Mound, and shell middens have been disturbed or completelty destroyed by pillaging, their contents used for road building materials, and levelling for housing developments.
