Description

c/n 1 Built 1979 On 12th June 1979, the Albatross became the first human-powered aircraft to cross the English Channel. Piloted by (and powered by) Bryan Allen, the flight from Folkestone to Cap Gris Nez took 2 hours 49 minutes and covered 22.5 miles. It was donated to the Smithsonian Institute by AeroVironment in 1981 and is seen on display at the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center as part of the National Air and Space Museum.
