Summary
[edit]DescriptionMaastricht, Oude Minderbroederskerk, vm Sterre-der-Zeekapel, sculpturen 3.jpg |
English: Statue of King David in the former Chapel of Our Lady, Star of the Sea in the former Minorite Church (Oude Minderbroederskerk) in Maastricht, Netherlands. The church is the oldest of three Franciscan or Minorite churches in Maastricht and is now in use as the city's archives (RHC Limburg). The former chapel is now a meeting room. The statue of David was once part of a Baroque altar that stood in this chapel from 1624, and perhaps in the Second Minorite Church until the dissolution of the monasteries in Maastricht in 1796. The altar was moved to the Nieuwenhofkapel and then thought to be lost. However, 7 sculptures survived in the depot of the Bonnefantenmuseum. During the 1990s restoration of the church they were re-arranged in a contemporary display by the artist Cornelis Rogge. |
