Nederlands: Ansichtkaart van de eerste berenkuil in het Aldenhofpark in Maastricht. In 1920 kocht het gemeentebestuur van circusdirecteur Wilhelm Hagenbeck uit Hamburg twee beren. De berenkooi werd door leerlingen van de Maastrichtse ambachtsschool vervaardigd. Het traliewerk was samengesteld uit een ijzeren staketsel dat aan de bovenzijde door een gebogen overspanning was omsloten. Het nachtverblijf bestond uit een gemetselde ruimte, die in een onderaardse kazemat van het voormalige bastion Wilhelmina was ingericht. De eerste twee beren bleken mannetjes te zijn en kregen de namen Max en Pol. Fotocollectie RHCL Maastricht, GAM 17230. |
