Object history Perhaps brought from Greece to France c. 1687; in the Gravier collection in Marseille by the early 18th century, and afterward in the collection of Chanoine Pichony in Nîmes. Purchased by the city of Lyon between 1808 and 1814.
Notes Previously known as the "Aphrodite of Lyons" or the "Aphrodite of Marseilles", because it was said to have been found in Marseille, but joining pieces of the buttocks and thighs and fragments of the left shoulder in the Acropolis Museum in Athens (inv. 269, 163, 164) prove that it originally stood on the Athenian Acropolis.
