The Pioneers, one of two monumental sculptures by American artist Lorado Taft that bookend the front steps of the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge, one of America's best-known state capitols

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Pioneers, one of two monumental sculptures by American artist Lorado Taft that bookend the front steps of the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge— one of America's best-known state capitols for two reasons: it is the tallest (the skyscraper-like building rises 34 stories), and it was here that one of the nation's most famous— some would say notorious — governors, populist Huey Long, was assassinated in 1935. The Taft sculptures honor those who explored and settled the state and sacrificed to keep it free.
