Summary
[edit]DescriptionLouis A LaFrance.png |
English: Portrait of Louis A. LaFrance, a prolific developer in the city of Holyoke, Massachusetts who studied his trade under Gilbert Potvin and is credited as having built 126 blocks (as in the buildings, not roads, e.g. "Elmwood Block") in that city, comprising 32 stores, and 1,796 apartments. A year prior to the Holyoke's population peak of 62,300 in 1913, he was listed in 1912 as the single largest taxpayer in the city, listed in ledgers as $77,472 or about $2 million in 2018 USD. His best known work included the Battleship block in South Hadley and the now-razed Essex House, originally known as the LaFrance Hotel. |
