English: Look Wide Camp Site. This place isn't marked as "Look Wide" on the OS maps but as Carr Edge. The cairn marks the site of the first official Boy Scout Camp. A commonly held misconception is that the first Scout camp was on Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour, Dorset but this was actually an experimental camp held by Baded-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement; the first Scout camp was actually in Northumberland. |
